Es-senza extra-virgin olive oil is sold under three labels: PLATINUM, GOLD AND SILVER.
All three labels of extra-virgin Es-senza oil derive from the pressing of the 3 Friends’ olives WITHIN THREE HOURS FROM HARVESTING.
But what is the difference between the three types considering that the oil is produced with olives coming from the same trees? Why are the prices on the labels different?
The difference derives from the PERIOD OF OLIVE HARVESTING. An extra-virgin olive oil of the highest quality contains 98% triglycerides and 2% nutraceuts. The name, nutraceuts derives from two Italian words: nutrients and pharmaceutical to indicate the double characteristic of these substances to function as nutrients and drugs at the same time.
Nutraceuts are chemical substances naturally contained in a small percentage of food that have BENEFICIAL EFFECTS ON OUR HEALTH. Usually the beneficial and nutritional characteristics of the nutraceuts tend TO DISAPPEAR WITH THE INDUSTRIAL PREPARATION OF FOODS.
Like pharmaceuticals, nutraceuts can however be synthesized in the laboratory and added to food or used as food supplements. Due to being able to be produced in the laboratory and be added to food, it is possible to find a large quantity of these man-made products in pharmacies and parapharmacies. Nutraceuts are basically used as food supplements and can be mainly purchased in alimentary integrators’ shops.
The quality of the nutraceuts produced in the laboratory is NOT comparable to the quality found in some natural foods.
Natural foods in which the nutraceuts are present are rare and EXTRA-VIRGIN OLIVE OIL OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY, IS ONE OF THESE.
When extra-virgin olive oil is produced at the beginning of the season, the quantity of product per 100KG of OLIVES IS USUALLY NOT MORE THAN 9/10L AND IS VERY RICH IN NUTRACEUTS. When extra-virgin olive oil is produced at the end of the season, the percentage of oil produced can in some cases be even 20% (usually from 15-18%) BUT THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF THE NUTRACEUTS ARE LOWER.
Producers of extra-virgin olive oil usually do NOT produce extra-virgin olive oil at the beginning of the season given that the percentage of oil produced is low, they are forced to bear high production costs that are usually not compensated for by the market. In fact, the buyer of extra-virgin olive oil has only two references: the price and the extra-virgin writing on the label which has no reference regarding the quantity and quality of the nutraceuts present in the oil.
For economical reasons, extra-virgin oils on the market ARE MOSTLY TOTALLY LACKING IN NUTRACEUTS AND USED PRINCIPALLY AS GREASE.
Following a personal company policy, the 3 Friends have created three extra-virgin olive oils PLATINUM, GOLD AND SILVER solely related to the olive harvesting period.
THE PLATINUM is produced from the beginning of the season, usually the end of September, until October 15. THE GOLD is produced from October 16 to November 5, while the SILVER is produced from November 6 until the end of the season.
The differences between the three types of oil are therefore closely linked to their levels of NUTRACEUTS which are highest in the PLATINUM.
From a medical perspective a daily consumption of PLATINUM or GOLD extra-virgin olive oil can be considered a “long life elixir”. As amply explained in our articles on the medical and nutritional properties of extra-virgin olive oil of the highest quality, the daily consumption of 50gr of PLATINUM or GOLD extra-virgin olive oil REDUCES MORTALITY DUE TO CEREBRAL VASCULAR ACCIDENTS BY 25%, DRASTICALLY SLOWING THE AGING PROCESS AND LENGTHENING LIVES.
A PLATINUM or GOLD oil therefore, adds more than just aroma and flavor to our daily food. IT SHOULD BE INTERPRETED AS A FOOD SUPPLEMENT TO BE TAKEN DAILY IN THE DOSE OF 50 GR.
The 3 Friends extra-virgin olive oil Es-senza PLATINUM, produced in a limited time period, is sold in numbered bottles, whose numbers vary from year to year. Despite being extra-virgin olive oils of excellent quality, GOLD and SILVER do not carry numbered labels.
HOW CAN A BUYER, PASSIONATE ABOUT EXTRA-VIRGIN OLIVE OIL BE SURE TO HAVE ACQUIRED THE BEST PRODUCT?
As previously explained, at present labels on bottles of extra-virgin olive oil sold in supermarkets show only the text – extra-virgin – which is NOT A QUALITY INDEX.
A consumer who is interested in daily consumption of the highest quality extra-virgin olive oil will now ask himself how to be sure to be able to buy the best product, considering that the daily consumption of an extra-virgin olive oil like PLATINUM or GOLD, in the dose of 50gr has the ability to reduce the risk of cerebrovascular accidents by 25%, as well as drastically slow the aging process and lengthen lives.
